Jon Cabot is originally from Wyoming. In 2008 he graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Music Education. While there, he studied jazz, marching, and concert percussion; performing in the University of Wyoming (UW) Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band I, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Steel Pan Ensemble.



In 2005, Mr. Cabot marched snare drum for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps under the direction of Caption Head Nick Angelis. In 2010, he graduated from the University of North Texas earning a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies, focusing on improvisation pedagogy with Mike Steinel and drumset studies with Ed Soph. After completing studies at UNT, he presented a clinic, “Teaching Style in Jazz Drumset Pedagogy”, at Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention in 2011.


Prior to Taylor High School, Mr. Cabot was one of the Assistant Band Directors at Spring Woods High School in Houston, TX and Irving High School in Irving, TX. Throughout his tenure at both campuses his ensembles received Sweepstakes ratings in both Marching and Concert & Sight Reading contests. During the 2013 Indoor Drumline season, Irving HS was awarded NTCA Champion in Standstill Class. In 2014, the Indoor Drumline earned 4th place in the AA Scholastic Class. Lastly, the Fall Drumline earned 2nd Place at the 2014 HEB Drumline Contest in 6A Novice.


Mr. Cabot is currently on the instructional staff with the “Percussion One Foundation”, a non-profit organization directed by Lamar Burkhalter in Houston. The group can be seen performing at the Houston Astros, Dynamo, Rockets, and Texans games.


Mr. Cabot spends his free time with his wife Jamie (also a band director in Cy-Fair), and his two children Colin and Carolyn. Mr. Cabot is proud to be a Taylor Mustang and a member of the JET Band.
